Cycling on the Costa del Sol: the best coastal routes and e-bike rental

The Costa del Sol is wonderful for cycling: flat promenades along the sea, a mild climate all year round and plenty of terraces to catch your breath. From your villa near Alhaurín el Grande the coast is half an hour away, where two of our favourite routes begin.

Along the coast in Málaga (± 35 min)

Start in the centre of Málaga with a short but punchy climb to the Castillo de Gibralfaro, then enjoy a relaxed ride east along the coast towards Rincón de la Victoria. Count on around 20 to 35 km, recreational to lightly sporty. In warm weather, set off early.

From Marbella to Puerto Banús (± 40 min)

A flat, family-friendly ride along the coast towards Puerto Banús and San Pedro, with beach bars and terraces all the way. Count on 20 to 40 km. Do watch for pedestrians on the promenade.

• You share the promenades with walkers, so keep an easy pace
• Plan a stop at a chiringuito (beach bar) along the way
• Sort out a helmet and lights with the rental shop
