The Costa del Sol in winter: why October to April is the best-kept secret

While the Low Countries turn grey and bleak, the sun keeps shining cheerfully on the Costa del Sol. With average daytime temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees in the winter months, this corner of Andalusia is one of Europe's mildest destinations, and exactly why it's so loved by anyone wanting to escape the Belgian winter for a while.

Calm, space and empty beaches

Outside high season you often have the loveliest spots to yourself. The white villages breathe calm, Marbella's promenades are pleasantly quiet, and the mountain walks around Alhaurín el Grande are at their greenest. From a villa with a private pool you enjoy that calm to the full, without the crowds of July and August.

What can you do?

  • A day trip to lively Málaga: museums, tapas bars and the old town
  • The glamour of Marbella and the marina of Puerto Banús
  • Golf on one of the many courses around Mijas and Fuengirola
  • Exploring the white villages and the mountains of the hinterland

Smartly booked

A longer winter stay is also better value than you'd think, especially when you book directly with the owners and pay no booking fees. Casa Jeromi and Casita Jeromi are ideal bases from October to April. Combine the two for a large party, or enjoy the calm as a couple.
