Discover the Costa del Sol: everything around your villa between Málaga & Marbella

The Costa del Sol is so much more than a beach lined with palm trees. From Casa and Casita Jeromi, in authentic Alhaurín el Grande right between Málaga and Marbella, you have real Andalusia and the glamour of the coast within easy reach. In this guide we map out everything you can experience around your villa.

Where you are: Alhaurín el Grande

Alhaurín el Grande is a white Andalusian town at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas, surrounded by citrus and olive groves. Here you taste the real Spanish rhythm: a lively market on Thursday mornings, narrow streets and tapas bars where the neighbourhood meets. The coast is about 25 minutes' drive away and Málaga airport just under half an hour, an ideal base.

The best day trips

  • Málaga: buzzing port city with the Picasso Museum, tapas bars and a charming old town
  • Marbella & Puerto Banús: palm-lined promenade, marina and plenty of glamour
  • Ronda: breathtaking mountain town above a deep gorge, about an hour's drive
  • Mijas Pueblo: picture-perfect white village with panoramic views over the coast

White villages & nature

The hinterland of the Costa del Sol is dotted with pueblos blancos, hushed white villages that show you the Andalusia of old. If you love walking, the Sierra de las Nieves national park offers beautiful routes among the pines and peaks, barely an hour from your villa.

Where to eat well

Around Alhaurín you'll find wonderful tapas bars and grill restaurants, from traditional to surprisingly international. We've gathered our personal favourites in a separate guide, so you know exactly where to go.

Beaches & golf

The beaches between Fuengirola and Marbella are about 25 minutes away, from lively beach bars to quiet coves. Golfers are spoilt: around Mijas and Fuengirola lie some of the finest courses on the Costa del Sol, playable year-round thanks to the mild climate.

When is the best time to come?

Our Spanish villas are at their best between October and April: mild weather, calm and sharper prices than in the busy summer. In a separate guide you can read why the Costa del Sol in winter is the best-kept secret.
