Where to eat around Alhaurín el Grande: our favourite spots

One of the nicest things about a stay in Alhaurín el Grande: you never have to go far for good food. These are the spots where we like to sit down ourselves, every one of them personally tested.

In Alhaurín el Grande

• El Fogón de Morales (± 10 min): a traditional grill on Calle Gerald Brennan; give in to the chuletón or entrecôte. Closed on Tuesdays.

Towards Coín (± 5–10 min)

• Restaurante Bohemia (Coín): a real favourite, where the owner paints the very artworks (landscapes and still lifes) hanging on the walls. Closed on Wednesdays.
• El Rengue (Coín): a refined spot serving market cuisine. Expect Iberian products, grilled meats, fish and seafood, and a fine wine list. Booking recommended.
• Fed Terraza: a lovely rooftop restaurant on the first floor of the La Trocha shopping centre, with a terrace and views. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• Venta Miralmonte: a cosy spot just outside Coín (Urbanización Miralmonte). Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Worth the drive: fish in Málaga (± 25–30 min)

• El Tintero: the legendary beachfront restaurant on the east side of Málaga, where the waiters auction the fish dishes out loud along the tables. Pure Andalusian folklore.

Book ahead

Many places have a fixed closing day (often Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday), so check before you go. At weekends and in high season the most popular spots fill up fast, so book in good time. And if you want to slip into the Spanish rhythm: Spaniards dine late, and things only get going from around nine in the evening.
